Home Sweet Home
Imagine that you've been living on the street so long, you don't remember the last time you had a full night's sleep. Life has been rough, to say the least. But now--because of your hard-working caseworker and the positive choices you've made to move forward--you're getting into an apartment. This is great. You'll no longer have to keep everything you own in backpacks and garbage bags. You'll be able to take a shower and use the toilet whenever you want. The only problem is that the apartment will be empty. The bare walls will be nearly as depressing as not having a home.
A high percentage of folks who are experiencing chronic homelessness believe they don't deserve good things, like a decent home. We at Beacon for Him work hard to change that perception. We find value in everyone, and we speak it out loud. We provide services and connections that strengthen perceptions of value.
Home Sweet Home is a project that began in partnership with Mental Health America (MHA) Village. Once a person obtains housing, Beacon steps in to help stock these new homes with basic necessities and comforts of home. Our vision is that through this project, we can create personal relationships with those in need and help promote successful and sustainable housing.
Your tax-deductible donations will help us provide this service. We are seeking small household items like: coffee makers, small microwaves, bedding, shower curtains, towels and washcloths, bath mats, pots and pans, dishes, silverware, and other small household items, including inspirational artwork and wall decor.
We currently have plenty twin-sized sheets, and our biggest need at the moment is for household cleaning items, like brooms, mops, sponges, gloves, and household cleansers.
