What We Do
This ministry began with a few individuals heading over to Lincoln Park, making every Monday Matter by starting the day with a comforting serving of soup, connection, and hope. Beacon for Him Ministries continues to grow and thrive, and runs off the unlimited power of God's love and grace, and the consistently overwhelming generosity of countless homed and homeless volunteers and donors. Our services have expanded since the soupline days at the park. Here's a look at what's going on at our facility now:
Church Services, Food Bank, and Prayer
In January 2015, we began a partnership with a ministry-driven church called The Branch.
At the laundromat on Cedar and Anaheim:
The Branch hosts:
Laundry Love, offering free laundry services to those in need, every 3rd Thursday at 11:30am. (It's best to arrive as early as 10am because there is a sign up sheet, and it fills up fast!)
At 439 Anaheim, The Branch offers:
Food Bank food distribution every 2nd and 4th Thursday, beginning at 10:30am.
Church services every Sunday morning at 10:30am.
Soupline: We serve a soupline (soup, sides, juice, and desert) every Monday morning from 9:00am until noon. These meals are served in a conversational setting, in a sanctuary filled with round tables and white table cloths. Our library, clothes closet, and animal sanctuary are also open during this time, allowing diners browse and check out books, charge their phones, and pick up some fresh, clean clothes.
We also offer "extra" meal services, usually on a Friday or a Saturday, whenever an individual or group steps in to host this meal. These extra meal services are usually announced during our Monday service.
Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home is a project that began with a partnership with MHA Village. Whenever someone makes a transition from street to home, they are welcome to visit our Home Sweet Home shed and take donated household items. This service is available to any previously homeless, newly-housed guest of Beacon For Him. Our vision is that through this project, we can create personal relationships with those in need, and help promote a successful transition from street to home.
Ashlee's Pet Care Station
Parents Shelly and Rich donated part of their daughter Ashlee's memorial fund for our animal sanctuary, in honor of Ashlee's absolute love for animals. We've also received generous donations of supply and labor from two construction companies and other giving individuals.
This backyard area has transformed into an oasis, a gorgeous and functional setting for the pets of our homeless friends to relax and refresh. The station includes a stainless steel wash tub and grooming area. We hope Ashlee is smiling down from heaven as she see's the many blessings unfolding weekly at this station! Thank you to Shelly & Rich Armond, and to all who have donated time, supplies and labor.
When you come for a visit, be sure to check our our flourishing backyard community garden that is open daily for our guests to work in and harvest the fruits of their labor! With much thanks and appreciation to Home Depot for donating the materials and supplies to build this lush garden.
Also many thanks to the local Boy Scout Troop for their hard work!
